Welles Award
William Bouton Welles ’71 Award
Each year, a select group of Third and Fourth Formers receive a generous stipend to pursue original projects in research, writing, or creative work. Established in memory of William Bouton Welles ’71, the award honors students whose proposals stand out for their innovation, excellence, and potential.
In 2024, Zikang Jiang ’25 received $170 to develop an early MVP for Torus and begin testing our value proposition.
In 2025, Anthony Woo ’26 and David Chen ’26 received a $500 Welles Award for their project, “TORUS: Transforming Food Waste into Sustainable Solutions for a Greener Future.” This summer research project aims to gather original data and publish findings to raise awareness about food waste and composting through collaborations with local schools, restaurants, and municipal governments.
